KENT, November 17, 2012 - Todd Fiddler had a hat trick Saturday night at ShoWare Center to lead the Spokane Chiefs to a 3-1 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds.
Seattle next plays Kootenay on Wednesday, November 21, at 7:05pm at ShoWare Center.
The first period saw Seattle get two chances on the power play, but the Chiefs were able to hold the T-Birds off the scoreboard. Spokane's goalie, Eric Williams, made a few huge saves to keep the game scoreless as Seattle piled on the pressure.
Heading into the second period, the game was 0-0, with the Thunderbirds outshoting Spokane 18-10.
The Thunderbirds went down a goal 1:30 into the second period off Todd Fiddler's 13th goal of the season. It was unassisted. The Thunderbirds had another two power-play opportunities in the period but failed to convert.
Shots for the second period were 10-9 Seattle, bringing the total to 28-19 after two periods.
Seattle goalie Brandon Glover made a fantastic save on Mitch Holmberg to keep the score 1-0 Chiefs, but Fiddler got his second of the game shortly after to push Spokane's lead to 2-0 at the 14:32 mark. Mike Aviani had the assist.
Seattle got one back late in the game after some great puck movement in the Chiefs' zone. Alexander Delnov skated into the zone and moved the puck to Shea Theodore along the left boards. He fed Lipsbergs in the slot who one-timed a shot under Williams' pads. It was Lipsbergs' fifth goal of the year and second is as many nights after scoring the game winner on Friday against Medicine Hat. The goal came at the 16:29 mark of the third.
The Thunderbirds pulled Glover with under two-minutes remaining. The T-Birds piled on the pressure, but Fiddler completed his hat trick after getting a loose puck and firing it down the ice into the empty net to make the final tally 3-1.
Shots for the third period were 15-7 Spokane, and 35-34 Seattle overall.
Glover stopped 31 of 33 shots and his record is now 9-8-1-0.
Williams made 34 saves on 35 shots and his record improves to 12-5-0-0.
