SPOKANE, October 30, 2012 - The Spokane Chiefs defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 8-2 Tuesday night at Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane.
The T-Birds now embark on a six-game road trip to the East Division. They play the Swift Current Broncos on Friday at the Credit Union i-Plex at 6pm. They face the Moose Jaw Warriors at Mosaic Place on Saturday at 6pm.
They will also play the Brandon Wheat Kings, Regina Pats, Prince Albert Raiders and Saskatoon Blades on the road trip.
Spokane (11-5-0-0) jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal by Mike Aviani at 9:21 of the first period. Jason Fram and Tyler King had the assists.
The Chiefs extended the lead to 2-0 at 10:25 of the first on a goal from King. Dylan Walchuk and Collin Valcourt were credited with the assists.
Spokane scored three goals in 1:10 late in the first period to take a commanding 5-0 lead. Todd Fiddler had a goal at 16:11, Carter Proft scored at 16:26 and Liam Stewart had the final goal at 17:21.
Seattle replaced goalie Brandon Glover with Justin Myles after Proft's goal. Glover stopped eight of 12 shots and his records falls to 6-4-1-0 with the loss.
Spokane outshot Seattle 14-5 in the first period.
Fiddler made it a 6-0 game with a power-play goal 57 seconds into the second period on assists from Aviani and Reid Gow.
Seattle (7-6-1-0) got on the board at 6:50 of the second. Connor Honey fed the puck to Luke Lockhart heading up the left wing. Lockhart gained the Chiefs zone and snapped wrist shot on goal from the left circle that beat Spokane goalie Eric Williams through his legs.
Both teams had 10 shots on goal in the second period and Spokane led 24-15 in total shots after two periods.
Brenden Kichton scored Spokane's seventh goal of the game at 9:59 of the third period. Aviani had the only assist.
Aviani scored on a breakaway at 11:25 of third to get Spokane's eighth goal of the night. Reid Gow was credited with an assist on the goal.
Spokane replaced Williams in net with Garret Hughson after their eighth goal.
The T-Birds got a second goal when Justin Hickman scored a power-play goal at 13:46 of the third. Hickman snapped the puck past Spokane goalie Garret Hughson form the left circle. Roberts Lipsbergs and Shea Theodore had the assists.
Spokane outshot Seattle 36-27 in the game.
Myles made 20 saves on 24 shots in 43 minutes of action.
Williams stopped 21 of 22 shots and improves his record to 9-3-0-0. Hughson stopped four of five shots in 12 minutes of action.
