RENTON - There isn't really a whole lot to say following a 58-0 victory.
There isn't really a key play or sequence to dissect. There aren't too many things that went wrong to analyze. When a team so thoroughly dominates an opponent as the Seattle Seahawks did to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, the results speak for themselves.
"So many things went right, so many opportunities were there that we took advantage of, and it just worked out to be a really one-sided game for us," head coach Pete Carroll said.
Seattle emptied their bench and were playing almost all their reserves for most of the fourth quarter. Carroll pulled some key starters after the first possession of the second half.
"It was really a great opportunity for us to get a lot of guys playing time, to have everyone contribute, and give us a chance to coach guys that normally don’t get to play as much," Carroll said. "We also got a good feel from everybody in the locker room, which was good."
Carroll said the team came out of the game pretty healthy with only S Chris Maragos suffering a minor hamstring strain. Maragos was out of uniform for the late stages of the game and said he would be all right.
LB Leroy Hill was active for yesterday's game against the Cardinals despite an ankle injury, but LB Malcolm Smith started and played the entire game in his place.
Carroll said after the game Hill could have played if needed but they wanted to give him another week if they could. Carroll spoke highly of the way Smith played for a second straight week.
"This is the best that I’ve seen Malcolm over the years, said Carroll, who coached Smith at USC as well. "This is the most confident that he has been and he’s playing aggressively and chasing the ball really well. He’s kind of got a nose for the football. Things happen when he’s around it, and that has kind of always been the case so it’s good to have him out there."
Carroll said it will still be a "wait and see" week to see if CB Marcus Trufant will be able to make it back from a serious hamstring strain that's forced him to miss the last two weeks. It's possible Trufant is placed on injured reserve this week. The coaches had a chance to see how CB Byron Maxwell and CB Jeremy Lane would play in expanded roles and they handled the opportunity well, albeit against a trainwreck of an offense in Arizona.
With the promotion of CB DeShawn Shead and the addition of CB Ron Parker from Carolina last week, Seattle has six cornerbacks on the active roster currently with CB Brandon Browner on the reserve/suspended list.
Trufant may miss more time as it is at corner and he may not be an upgrade over who Seattle is playing now.
The league has moved Seattle's next home game against the San Francisco 49ers in two weeks to Sunday night. It is the first game this season to be moved into primetime.
The San Diego Chargers had been scheduled to play the New York Jets on Sunday night. With both teams out of the playoff picture, NBC decided to flex the game out of the primetime slot. Both major networks can protect one game for their audience. CBS protected the Cincinnati Bengals at Pittsburgh Steelers game, while FOX protected the New York Giants at Baltimore Raves. That left only three likely games to move into primetime.
St. Louis at Tampa Bay, Minnesota at Houston and San Francisco at Seattle were the three games that seemed likely to move. The game between the 49ers and Seahawks is the only one that is guaranteed to have playoff implications for both teams.
