A lot happened today out at Seahawks training camp but nothing was bigger than the news that Percy Harvin is dealing with a labrum issue in his hip. That is about as much as we know for SURE but there are reports all over the place of what now.
The first reports of the day came from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network:
Percy Harvin will get a second opinion on his ailing hip early next week. Should know more about his availability then.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) July 25, 2013
What is new #Seahawks WR Percy Harvin (hip) battling? I'm told it's a slight tear in the labrum. Second opinion will be important.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) July 25, 2013
Pete Carroll addressed the report when he met with the media. Listen to see what the team is saying officially (Harvin is the 2nd question at 35 seconds)
Will Carroll, the best person to follow on twitter for sports injury questions (and answers) shared that it seems very likely that Harvin's hip will need surgery when all is said and done.
He spoke with Dr. David Geier, a top orthopedic surgeon, who said there are basically two options.
1 - If it's not too serious, a procedure to smooth the labrum requires a recovery time that's usually six to eight weeks.
2 - If it is worse, the more serious surgery requires a "return to play process that can take four to six months."
Will's article is DEFINITELY worth the read so check it out HERE
There are more reports out now about what is going and, unfortunately, they are conflicting so it seems clear that we don't really know what the real story is.
First, Ian Rapoport:
Interested to hear about Percy Harvin's 2nd opinion on Tues. Seahawks doctor didn't recommend surgery on hip. It is a possible option, tho— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) July 26, 2013
Now Jason LaCanfora from CBSSports.com
Percy Harvin yet to finalize 2nd opinion on hip, with that process ongoing. If surgery required as 1st Dr. recommended likely season ending— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) July 26, 2013
The Seahawks doctor would have been the first opinion so that is where the conflict comes up. You know we'll be all over this story throughout training camp on KJR so stay tuned!!
