Carson Stadnyk scored twice and Jujhar Khaira once as the Silvertips rallied from 2-0 down to tie the game and then take the lead before the T-Birds sent the game to overtime. Goaltender Daniel Cotton (7-2-3-0) turned away 39 of 42 shots in net to improve to 2-0 against his former team this season. Dawson Leedahl picked up two assists to give him three points in the past two nights.
The Silvertips outshot Seattle in the first and came close to scoring numerous times, but the T-Birds scored the only goal on the period’s only powerplay to lead 1-0 after 20 minutes. Roberts Lipsbergs got a pass from Justin Hickman and raced down the left side for a shot that was stopped by Cotton, but he banged in his own rebound to get Seattle on the board at 10:09. Shots on goal were 15-12 in favor of Everett after one.
Seattle took a 2-0 lead during a 5-on-3 powerplay in the second, with Ryan Gropp sliding a rebound into the net at 4:30. Everett answered with their first goal on a powerplay of their own as Jujhar Khaira circled the net and fired a sharp-angle shot over Danny Mumaugh’s shoulder to cut the deficit in half. On their second powerplay of the night with time winding down in the period, the ‘Tips tied the game on a scramble in front when Carson Stadnyk jammed in a loose puck. The game was tied at two with Everett leading 26-19 on the shot clock heading into the third.
Stadnyk gave the Silvertips their first lead early in the third, receiving a head-man pass from Kohl Bauml and fighting off a Seattle defender before lifting the puck into the top corner to make it 3-2 Everett. The lead wouldn’t hold however, as the T-Birds tied the game back up as Branden Troock picked up a deflected shot and rifled it into the corner to even the score once again.
The Thunderbirds came on strong for the remainder of the period and outshot the ‘Tips 21-11, but Cotton and the Silvertips maintained the tie as the game went to overtime. Everett got the game-winner at 3:26 of the extra session when Brayden Low skated through the left circle and fired a shot that ricocheted off Mumaugh and in to give the Silvertips a 4-3 victory.
Danny Mumaugh (11-6-1-3) turned away 37 of 41 shots as the final shot count was 42-41 in favor of Seattle. Both teams scored twice on three powerplay opportunities.
