Lotz (14-17-1-1) made several key saves throughout the night, including in the third period to keep Everett either tied or leading throughout.  Bauml scored twice on the powerplay – including the game-winner with 3:07 remaining – while Petryk also scored in the third period before Manraj Hayer’s empty-net goal in the closing seconds.

The Silvertips came out with fire in an entertaining first period that ended even at one.  With Everett on the powerplay midway through the frame, Ty Rattie was awarded a penalty shot after being stopped on a breakaway.  He scored on the opportunity to give Portland the 1-0 lead.  With the ‘Tips still on the man-advantage just 37 seconds later, Mirco Mueller cut in from the blue line and centered a pass Bauml to bang in the equalizer.  Shots on goal were 15-13 in favor of Portland after the first period.

A scoreless second frame saw plenty of scoring chances with neither team finding the back of the net.  Back-and-forth action continued throughout and both teams had powerplay time, but the game remained tied after 40 minutes with the ‘Hawks leading 30-21 in shots.

The ‘Tips took their first lead midway through the third period on a crisp passing sequence.  Ryan Harrison gained the Portland zone before delaying and dropping a pass back to Josh Winquist.  Winquist quickly moved the puck to Reid Petryk, who sent a wrister over Mac Carruth’s shoulder to put Everett on top 2-1.  The Winterhawks tied the game again less than three minutes later as Ty Rattie snuck a one-timer just past Lotz’ outstretched glove late in a Portland powerplay.

The Silvertips took the lead again on a powerplay goal of their own as Kohl Bauml deflected in Landon Oslanski’s long wrist shot into the net to make it a 3-2 game with 3:07 remaining.  Portland pulled Carruth for an extra attacker and threatened in the last 90 seconds, but Manraj Hayer backhanded a loose puck into the empty net from the Everett zone to secure the 4-2 victory.

Mac Carruth (28-7-0-2) stopped 21 of 24 shots in the loss as the Winterhawks outshot the Silvertips 45-25.  Everett converted twice on five powerplay attempts and successfully killed off three of four Portland opportunities.
