Kohl Bauml scored two goals for Everett and Ryan Murray assisted on all three Silvertips scores to pass Peter Mueller for fifth place on the Silvertips’ all-time list with 90 career helpers. Josh Winquist scored the other goal for the ‘Tips, who also got 28 saves from Daniel Cotton in his second WHL win.
Despite an early Broncos powerplay in the opening period, it was the Silvertips who jumped out to a quick 1-0 advantage. Josh Winquist chased down an Everett clearing attempt and created a partial breakaway, slipping a backhander between the pads of Swift Current goaltender Eetu Laurikainen to open the scoring. The Silvertips added to the lead late in the first as Kohl Bauml stuffed in the rebound of Mirco Mueller’s point blast to give the ‘Tips a 2-0 lead after one.
Everett started the second stanza with their third straight successful penalty kill. The Broncos cut into the lead at 7:21 however as the rebound of an Adam Lowry shot was tapped in by Chance Lund at the top of the goal crease. The Silvertips maintained the 2-1 edge through the remainder of the second and into the third.
Shots were hard to come by for either team for most of the final period as the ‘Tips kept the Broncos from seizing momentum and tying the game. With the net Swift Current empty in the final minute, Murray and Reid Petryk helped Bauml get free to ice the victory with his second goal of the night.
Daniel Cotton is now 2-2-0-0 on the season after allowing only one goal in the win. Eetu Laurikainen stopped 27 shots as the Silvertips finished with a 30-29 shot advantage. Everett did not have a powerplay in the game and held Swift Current scoreless on three opportunities.
