Draftees DT Jordan Hill (left) and DT Jesse Williams (right) go through drills.

RENTON - The Seattle Seahawks opened up rookie mini-camp on Friday with 67 players taking to the practice field.
The group of players eligible to participate included the Seahawks 2013 NFL Draft class, undrafted free agent signings and tryout players. Also eligible to participate are players without any NFL service time accrued.
In total, the group includes 11 draft picks, nine signed undrafted free agents, 38 tryout players and nine players with previous NFL experience but no accrued service time signed by the team. The full roster is available below.
It was the first opportunity for the coaching staff to take a look at their new group of rookies. While RB Christine Michael and DT Jordan Hill were drafted higher, fifth-round pick TE Luke Willson made the biggest impression on head coach Pete Carroll on day one.
Wilson caught the ball well and showed his speed on a play midway through practice. He hauled in a pass along the left sideline and turned up field. Despite at least a pair of defensive backs giving chase, Willson outran the defenders to the endzone for a touchdown.
"Luke had a very good first today. He had a couple good opportunities on the sidelines, he got to turn it up and took off," Carroll said. "He has really good speed and it showed up which is really cool on the practice field first day out. He caught the ball really well. So that was probably the brightest spot that you could really see a guy jump out today."
Carroll also singled out FB Spencer Ware, T Michael Bowie and G Jared Smith as players that made a positive impression.
"Spencer Ware looked very good today. He did some good things. He’s transitioning to doing more blocking. But he did run the football. He catches the football real well. I liked him," Carroll said. "I think [Michael] Bowie looked good. He looked very stable and very well-balanced today for a big guy. That’s an exciting guy. I said Jared Smith showed some good stuff. I was really pleased with Jesse [Williams] and Jordan [Hill] down here in drills. All the guys pretty much showed like we had hoped so it was a good first time out."
Bowie looks the part of a right tackle. He was in-line to compete for a starting job at Oklahoma State before leaving the program after a violation of team rules. Though it's difficult to gauge a player, especially a lineman, in no-padded practices, physically Bowie looks like an NFL lineman.
Not to be forgotten, Michael lived up to the expectations of the coaching staff as well.
"He’s very quick – very quick and sudden," Carroll said. "He caught the ball well too and didn’t have any trouble picking things up to understand the system. For a first day, he got off to a good start. Had a couple of good runs that got him out in the open and all that, so pretty cool.”
Carroll said that DT Greg Scruggs injured his right knee doing a bag drill in workouts before the NFL Draft. He underwent surgery on Thursday to repair a torn ACL in his right knee.
"He stumbled coming out of a bag drill. He was doing bags and stumbled and tried to catch himself and hyper-extended his knee. Kind of similar to how James Carpenter got hurt. It was just a drill by himself and unfortunate that he hit just exactly wrong."
Another player to stand out, if merely just for his size alone, was tryout TE Darren Fells. Fells was on the roster as recently as Wednesday before being released by the team. He is still with the Seahawks on a tryout this basis.
Fells, a former basketball player, is 6-foot-7 and 281 pounds. Yet, Fells appeared to be able to move well for his size and is a fairly fluid runner. It would be a long-shot to consider him as a possibility to make the roster, but he's an intriguing prospect.
Before practice began Friday, the Seahawks announced they had signed seven of their 11 draft picks. DT Jordan Hill, WR Chris Harper, DT Jesse Williams, TE Luke Willson, G Ryan Seymour, LB Ty Powell and G Jared Smith are all now under contract with the team. Per NFL rules, all signed four-year deals.
Only RB Christian Michael, CB Tharold Simon, FB Spencer Ware and T Michael Bowie remain unsigned.
CB Richard Sherman also made an appearance for the practice. Sort of...
Sherman cruised up to the edge of the practice field on a jet ski to get a view of the action.
