McDaniel is the third defensive lineman to sign with the Seahawks this offseason joining DE Cliff Avril and DE/DT Michael Bennett. In fact, the only free agent signings Seattle has made this offseason has been to bolster the defensive line.
McDaniel is a big load at 6-foot-7, 305 pounds. His signing could indicate the Seahawks are willing to move in a different direction from DT Alan Branch. Branch spent the last two seasons in Seattle making $3.5 million a season. He is currently still an unrestricted free agent.
McDaniel has mostly been a rotational player for the Miami Dolphins over the last four seasons making just two starts over that span. His most productive season with the Dolphins was in 2010 when he appeared in 15 games and compiled 36 tackles, 2.5 sacks and four passes defensed.
