RENTON - The Seattle Seahawks didn't have many holes to fill this offseason leading to the thought they may not be big players to bring in outside talent when free agency began Tuesday.

Boy was that thought wrong.

After acquiring WR Percy Harvin in a trade from the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday, the Seahawks made a big splash on the free agent market on Wednesday.

According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, the Seahawks have agreed to terms on a contract with former Detroit Lions DE Cliff Avril. Avril is reportedly on his way to Seattle for a physical to complete the deal.

Per Adam Schefter of ESPN.com, it's a two-year contract worth $15 million.

Avril was regarded as one of the top defensive linemen available in free agency but it looks like Seattle got him at a discounted price. Avril was given the franchise tag by the Lions last season and earned $10.5 million. He had been offered a three-year, $30 million deal with the Lions prior to getting the franchise tag.

Avril will earn an average of $7.5 million over the next two seasons with Seattle. The upside for Avril is that he will hit the free agent market again in two years at just 28 years old.

Avril has been a consistant pass rushing threat for the Lions over the last three seasons. He's started 45 of a possible 48 games and recorded 29 sacks over that span.
