RENTON - The Seattle Seahawks will see the return of one cornerback this weekend while another is still on standby.

CB Marcus Trufant will play for the first time in five weeks this Sunday after a hamstring strain forced him to be sidelined. CB Walter Thurmond will not be able to go and has officially been ruled out.

Thurmond strained a hamstring in practice two weeks ago before the trip to Toronto to play the Buffalo Bills. Thurmond is still feeling the effects of the strain and will not be able to play against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.

"It hasn’t been as good as we would like," head coach Pete Carroll said of Thurmond's recvery. "He’s really been pushing, but he just hasn’t been able to get out of the discomfort. With a hamstring you have to come back feeling nothing. You can’t be nursing because you’ll become too vulnerable. He’s still feeling it so that’s not a good sign for this week obviously. It’s going to be hard for him to get back next week too."

The silver lining to the injuries to Trufant and Thurmond and the suspension of CB Brandon Browner has been the experience CB Jeremy Lane and CB Byron Maxwell have been able to earn over the last several weeks. The duo has played well in relief and Carroll feels more confident in turning to the young duo if necessary in the postseason.

"You get them out there and you pay them, and when they play they gain confidence and they become more of a factor, and they become more confident and all of that," Carroll said. "That’s all that just took place, and that was great for those guys, and it’s great for us too to know what to expect from them on the field. They handle it well, they’re calm about it, they’re poised, and athletically they hung in there. There is still a million miles of experience for them to be gained, but that’s hugely beneficial."

LB Leroy Hill is listed as questionable for Sunday's game after suffering a hamstring strain last week against the San Francisco 49ers. T Breno Giacomini is also questionable with an elbow injury but was able to fully participate in practice on Friday.

The Seahawks announced Friday they had re-signed WR Deon Butler and released CB Ron Parker. With Sherman's successful appeal and the return of Trufant, Seattle felt they were all right with depth at cornerback.

One place they feel a little less certain is at linebacker. The team is also expected to sign LB Allen Bradford from the practice squad to solidify the depth there with Hill questionable. To make room on the roster, the Seahawks are also expected to release DT Hebron Fangupo.
