RENTON - Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday a bruised foot could affect the availability of WR Sidney Rice for this Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills in Toronto.
Carroll said Rice has a bruised foot that showed up after the game and is in a walking boot. Carroll said that because he is still in a boot it is a possibility that he is not able to play this week, but said he does feel quite a bit better than he did on Monday.
"He's got a pretty sore foot so we don't know," Carroll said.
Carroll added that Rice has undergone X-rays and a MRI on his foot and there is nothing wrong, it's just sore. He did not practice on Wednesday.
Carroll said that WR Charly Martin will jump into Rice's role and they will rotate their other receivers through as well if he is not able to play against the Bills.
LB Leroy Hill returned to full participation in practice Wednesday after not playing the last two weeks with an ankle injury. However, he was splitting reps with LB Malcolm Smith, who started in Hill's place the last two weeks. Carroll called it a "competitive situation" for who would start this week against Buffalo.
Carroll said that CB Marcus Trufant is still not able to return to practice as he continues to deal with a significant hamstring strain suffered in practice two weeks ago. It's possible Trufant ultimately is placed on injured reserve. The coaches had a chance to see how CB Byron Maxwell and CB Jeremy Lane would play in expanded roles and they handled the opportunity well, albeit against a trainwreck of an offense in Arizona.
With the promotion of CB DeShawn Shead and the addition of CB Ron Parker from Carolina last week, Seattle has six cornerbacks on the active roster currently with CB Brandon Browner on the reserve/suspended list.
Trufant may miss more time as it is at corner and he may not be an upgrade over who Seattle is playing now.
Thurmond and S Kam Chancellor were somewhat surprising additions to the injury report on Wednesday. Chancellor finished the game against Arizona on Sunday but did not practice with a groin injury. Thurmond was limited due to a hamstring issue. Carroll did not address either at his press conference earlier in the day.
G John Moffitt and G J.R. Sweezy are going to continue to split time at right guard. Carroll spoke highly of the way Sweezy played in his first substantial playing time since starting in Arizona in Week 1.
