RENTON - DT Jason Jones will travel with the team to Detroit this weekend but is doubtful to play according to head coach Pete Carroll.
Jones injured his ankle during last Thursday's 13-6 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He has been unable to practice all week. If Jones can't play, DT Greg Scruggs would fill his role as a situation pass rusher on the interior defensive line.
"(Jones) has been involved in a lot of stuff," Carroll said. "He's got 2-3 sacks, something like that, but he's been involved a bunch and has been a factor so we'll miss him if we can't get him out there."
Scruggs earned his first sack last week against the 49ers. Carroll said Scruggs pass rush ability is more than what they initially thought when they drafted him.
"Scruggs is a better pass rusher than we thought," Carroll said. "We didn't know that he would have the creativity that he has so he's got a chance to be a really good player for us. We're really excited about him."
WR Doug Baldwin was ruled out early in the week with a high-ankle sprain and CB Byron Maxwell was downgraded to out on Friday with a hamstring injury. G John Moffitt is listed as questionable and could be active for the first time in five weeks on Sunday. Carroll said he still isn't a consideration to start at this point.
Carroll said they have made a decision on whether to activate CB Walter Thurmond from the physically unable to perform list... but declined to answer what that decision was. If Thurmond is activated, the team would need to release someone to make room on the roster. They have until Saturday afternoon to make a roster move if Thurmond is to be activated for the game. He can remain on PUP for another week before the team needs to make a decision on him.
Detroit is 3-43 over their last 46 games dating back to November 2007 when scoring 21 points or fewer.
Seattle is allowing just 15.1 points per game and has only allowed 21 points once this season in their 24-23 win over the New England Patriots. If Seattle can keep the Lions offense under 21 points, history shows Seattle should have a very good chance to win the game.
