RENTON - Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford threw for 5,038 yards and 41 touchdowns a season ago.
Despite a slow start to the 2012 season in which Stafford has thrown for just five touchdowns in six games, the Seattle Seahawks know the Lions can be dangerous offensively.
"They could just be struggling and then they could just start picking it up at any time," LB Bobby Wagner said. "They are capable of being a high-powered offense. We've just got to make sure our defense is better than their offense."
The Seahawks will have to deal with Lions standout WR Calvin Johnson. Despite having just one touchdown catch so far this season, Johnson has already hauled in 38 passes for 592 yards in just six games. That's a pace for nearly 100 catches and over 1,500 yards for the season.
Detroit lost former Seahawks WR Nate Burleson for the season after suffering a broken leg against the Chicago Bears on Monday night. Burleson had caught 27 balls for 240 yards before being lost for the seaosn. TE Brandon Pettigrew is the Lions' second-most productive receiver with 31 catches for 300 yards on the year.
The Lions' offense has the potential to break out at any time but they have a challenge in facing the Seattle defense. Detroit is 3-43 over their last 46 games dating back to November 2007 when scoring 21 points or fewer.
Seattle is allowing just 15.1 points per game and has only allowed 21 points once this season in their 24-23 win over the New England Patriots. If Seattle can keep the Lions offense under 21 points, history shows Seattle should have a very good chance to win the game.
