The National Football League has suspended Seattle Seahawks DE Bruce Irvin four games for a violation of the league's performance-enhancing drug policy.
According to our own Dave "Softy" Mahler, the violation was for use of Adderall per two league sources. Irvin is not appealling the decision and will miss the first four games of the season. He is eligible to return for the team's Week 5 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts.
"I want to apologize to my teammates, coaches and Seahawks fans for making a mistake when I took a substance that is prohibited in the NFL without a medical exemption," Irvin said in a statement released by the team.
"I am extremely disappointed in the poor judgment I showed and take full responsibility for my actions. I will not appeal the discipline and instead will focus my energy on preparing for the season so I can begin earning your trust and respect again. I look forward to contributing to the team the moment I return."
Irvin is the fifth Seahawks player to be suspended for a PED violation in the last three seasons with CB Richard Sherman avoiding suspension during the appeals process.
CB Brandon Browner, S Winston Guy, G John Moffitt and former player OL Allen Barbre were all hit for violations of the PED policy.
