Alex Liddi belts 29th and 30th home runs of the season
TACOMA, Wash. – Alex Liddi’s two-home run game was not enough to stop the Tacoma Rainiers from dropping their season finale 12-9 to the Fresno Grizzlies in front of a sell-out crowd of 7,217 fans at Cheney Stadium on Monday.
Liddi hit his 29th home run of the season, a two-run blast, in the bottom of the first inning to give Tacoma quick 2-0 lead, but the Grizzlies jumped ahead for good with three runs in the top of the second.
Fresno’s lead stretched to 10-2 after scoring seven runs over the third and fourth innings. Justin Christian and Brad Eldred both hit two-run home runs and designated hitter Max Ramirez went deep twice to extend the Grizzlies advantage.
With Fresno holding a 10-5 lead in the eighth, Liddi hit his 30th home run of the season, another two-run shot, and Peguero followed suit with a solo homer in the next at-bat to cut the Rainiers deficit down to three runs.
After the Grizzlies notched two more runs in the top of the ninth, Michael Saunders rounded out the Rainiers day on offense with a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning, his seventh with Tacoma this season.
Fresno’s starter Matt Yourkin (10-8) held the Rainiers to five runs on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts over six innings to collect the win. Tacoma’s starter Nate Robertson (6-7) was dealt the loss after surrendering nine runs on eight hits over 3.2 innings.
The Rainiers next take the field at Cheney Stadium for the club’s season opener against the Salt Lake Bees on April 5. For season tickets, group or party deck information for the 2012 season, call (253) 752-7707, email tickets@tacomarainiers.com or visit our website at www.tacomarainiers.com.
