It was a great night at Safeco if your last name was Saunders! Michael Saunders homered in his first at bat in his first game back from the DL. Joe Saunders pitched a complete game 4 hitter and the Mariners took game one of the series from the Orioles 6-2.
Michael Saunders got the M’s on the board first with a solo HR to right center and the M’s held a 1-0 lead into the fourth inning until Matt Wieters hit a two run shot with two outs. Baltimore’s lead didn’t last long as Jason Bay hit the game tying RBI double in the fourth inning, Robert Andino followed up with the go head single scoring Jesus Montero and gave Seattle a 3-2 lead.
Jason Bay had 3 hits. Kyle Seager and Justin Smoak each had two hits. Joe Saunders picked up his second win of the season allowing just four hits, one walk and struck out two. Saunders did give up his first earned run at Safeco Field this season.
Notes: The Mariners played in front of the smallest crowd ever at Safeco Field. The announced attendance was 9,818.
Next up: Game two of the series tomorrow night the Mariners toss Brandon Maurer (2-3, 5.61) and the Orioles counter with Jason Hammel (3-1, 3.82)
