GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Seattle Mariners allowed a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh, wiping out a 2-1 lead and sending the club to 3-2 loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers in front of 10,330 fans at Camelback Ranch in Glendale in Cactus League play on Saturday.

Seattle jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second inning behind four consecutive singles by Dustin Ackley, Jesus Sucre, Brendan Ryan and Franklin Gutierrez (2 RBI). Gutierrez finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI. 

The Mariners collected 11 hits but just one extra base hit (Michael Morse double). It was the first game this spring that the Mariners failed to homer.

Jon Garland made a strong start, working 3.0 innings and allowing 1 run on 3 hits. Anthony Fernandez (2 SO), Jonathon Arias, Brian Moran (1 H, 3 SO) and Bobby LaFromboise (1 H, 2 SO) all worked shutout innings, combining to allow just 2 hits. Yoervis Medina took the loss (0-1) allowing a 2-run homer in the seventh, erasing a 2-1 Seattle lead.

The Mariners played a six inning “B” game in the morning, beating the Padres 6-3. Jason Bay homered and drove in 3 runs, while Robert Andino, Brad Miller and Vinnie Catricala all collected 2 hits. Left-hander Joe Saunders got the start, working 2.2 innings and allowing 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned runs and 1 home run. Statistics from the B game do not count in the official spring stats.

The Mariners return home tomorrow, hosting the Chicago White Sox at Peoria Stadium. Right-handed pitcher Andrew Carraway (0-0) is scheduled to start for the Mariners against White Sox right-hander Dylan Axelrod.
