The Seahawks continue to surprise and amaze us when it comes to the NFL draft. Not one single person watching or listening to the draft ever thought they would use their first pick on a running back. I mean think about it...why in the world would these guys, with Marshawn Lynch and Robert Turbin go and draft ANOTHER tailback!!
It's a pretty simple answer.
Christine Michael was flat out the most talented player on their board, and as Seahawks GM told us on Friday night, you don't screw with the football gods and system...top tier talent always wins out. It doest matter if it doesn't exactly fit a need. But under the John Schneider model, you'd rather have a 10 than a 9.5...again, talent always wins out.
Remember, there wasn't a growing need for this football team. Why wasn't their a need? Because Schneider has done such an amazing job in previous drafts which has allowed him a luxury pick. His luxury was to not reach for a perceived need, and instead say to his team and to the rest of the league, that despite all this kick talent we have, we'll just continue to add to that.
This is a bold and out of the box organization and it is so refreshing. This league, in particular, is so cookie cutter, and these guys just don't buy into that narrative. And, geez, how nice is to have free thinkers running your team!
With 10 picks remaining on the final day, the organization that walks down their own road will have a plethora of chips to play in rounds, in which, they have outclassed the NFL for the past few years.
It's weird, with these guys you almost get more excited in the middle rounds.
The question for Saturday, which Pro Bowl player will they get?
