I got in pretty late to the airport, around 11pm and headed to the car rental spot only to find that the upstairs Hertz counter was closed.  No worries, they said just to head downstairs to the Gold Club entry and they'll take care of you there.

Well, as I headed downstairs I noticed 20 people waiting in line for cars.  Apparently, not making this up, according to the people working the desk downstairs, the employees scheduled to work upstairs didn't show up for work!  But, the good news is that all involved downstairs pegged the issue on one worker named Jose.   Now, when I hear the name Jose and I'm down in Phoenix, I only think of one person.   Of course, that's Jose Miguel Romero, formerly of the Seattle Times who used to cover the Seattle Seahawks who now lives down here in Arizona.  Jose now does some freelance work for the Associated Press and you can follow him on twitter @RomeroJoseM.   Great guy, sarcastic sense of humor despite being an Oregon Duck.

Anyways, back to the Hertz ordeal, it only took an hour and a half to get the car....but you can't complain too much, you are in Arizona covering Spring Training, live is not too difficult.  But, the good news is and Softy will agree once he gets here later today, no one will be disappointed in the car that we have at are disposal.

I pride myself on being able to butter up to people and work out a few deals in my favor.  Listen, we are on the company dime here and anyone that has ever traveled on the company dimes knows that they like to save money anyway they can.  One of those ways to save money is to cut back on the car you rent.  Many times you end up with some type of Toyota Corolla...unfortunately that's not going to cut it for spring training.  Last year, I talked myself into a Ford Mustang and this year we went with the Infinity G37....the company frowns on the upgrade but listen if we are going to travel exactly one mile from the hotel to the park then we will do it in style.

Coming up on the show today from the Salty Senorita today we'll talk to Brendan Ryan and Joe Saunders and specifically we'll talk to them about what being a veteran means to them and what veteran leadership adds to your clubhouse.
