#28 Walter Thurmond III
2012 Stats: 3 tkls (Injured)
Now entering his fourth season, Walter Thurmond III's NFL career has been marred by injuries since he was taken in the 4th round out of Oregon in 2010. However, the speedy corner is healthy and in a battle with veteran Antoine Winfield for the starting nickel spot on an already loaded Seahawks defense. Thurmond and his athletic ability gives Seahawks Defensive Coordinator Dan Quinn the opportunity to be more flexible with his schemes, and solidifies this group of defensive backs as the best in the league. Winfield may end up winning the starting job, but look for Thurmond to prove doubters wrong this season with the opportunities he gets.
#51 Bruce Irvin
2012 Stats: 10 tkls, 8.0 sacks, 1 FF, 1 FR
Bruce Irvin had mixed results in 2012. On one hand, he led all rookies with 8.0 sacks and showed great speed and quickness in getting to the quarterback. On the other hand, Irvin wasn't a consistant run stopper and did not perform well when given a full time opportunity against Atlanta in the bigget game of the year. When you add on the fact that he is suspended 4 games to start the season in 2013, the 2nd year DE has plenty to prove. Seattle solidified their defensive line this year by adding Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett in free agency, and also acquired Jesse Williams and Jordan Hill in the draft. A move to linebacker could be the change needed for Irvin to become a full time member of the defense. His talent is unquestioned, that is why the Seahawks drafted him so high. However, he needs to have a solid and consistant season starting when he returns Week 5 in Indianapolis.
