The 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft begins tonight. The Seattle Mariners have the #12 overall pick for the first time in the team’s history. While Mariners fans hope the team selects the next franchise player, Ian and Puckett took a look at past Mariners drafts and who could be taking the field tonight for the Mariners against the Yankees.
Here is The Furness Show Mariners Fantasy Re-Draft:
2001 (Pat Gillick): The Mariners selected Michael Garciaparra in the first round with the 36th overall pick. Two picks later, the Mets selected David Wright #38 overall. The Furness Show picks David Wright as its third baseman.
2002 (Pat Gillick): The Mariners selected John Mayberry, Jr. in the first round with the 28th overall pick. Cincinnati selected Joey Votto with the 44th overall pick. Ian and Puckett pick Joey Votto as its first baseman.
2003 (Pat Gillick): The Mariners selected Adam Jones in the first round with the 37th overall pick. Great pick, The Furness Show keeps Adam Jones. Erik Bedard who?
2004: No first round pick.
2005 (Bill Bavasi): Spoiler: This is going to hurt M’s fans. The Mariners selected Jeff Clement in the first round with the 3rd overall pick. The Washington Nationals selected Ryan Zimmerman #4 overall. The Milwaukee Brewers selected Ryan Braun #5 overall. The Colorado Rockies selected Troy Tulowitzki #7 overall. The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Andrew McCutchen #11 overall. The Cincinnati Reds selected Jay Bruce #12 overall. The Boston Red Sox selected Jacoby Ellsbury #23 overall and Clay Buchholz #42 overall. All in the first round. The Furness Show selects Troy Tulowitzki as its shortstop.
2006 (Bill Bavasi): The Mariners selected Brandon Morrow in the first round with the 5th overall pick. The Los Angeles Dodgers picked Clayton Kershaw two picks later at #7 overall. The San Francisco Giants picked University of Washington pitcher Tim Lincecum with the 10th overall pick. Because of the Seattle connection, The Furness Show selects two-time Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum as its starting pitcher.
2007 (Bill Bavasi): The Mariners selected Phillippe Aumont in the first round with the 11th overall pick. Three picks later, the Atlanta Braves selected Jason Heyward #14 overall. The Miami Marlins selected Giancarlo Stanton #76 overall in the second round. Since Heyward was selected in the first round, The Furness Show selects Jason Heyward as its right fielder.
2008 (Bill Bavasi): The Mariners selected Josh Fields in the first round with the 20th overall pick. The St. Louis Cardinals selected Lance Lynn with the 39th overall pick. Four picks later, the Arizona Diamondbacks selected Wade Miley #43 overall. The Furness Show selects Lance Lynn as its starting pitcher.
2009 (Jack Zduriencik): The Mariners had three first round picks this year. They selected Dustin Ackley #2 overall, Nick Franklin #27 overall and Steven Baron #33 overall. Let’s focus strictly on the #2 overall pick. The St. Louis Cardinals selected Shelby Miller with the 19th overall pick. Six picks later, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim selected Mike Trout with the 25th overall pick. If it’s not already obvious enough, The Furness Show selects Mike Trout as its left fielder.
After The Furness Show MLB Fantasy Re-Draft the Mariners lineup tonight would be:
1.) LF Mike Trout
2.) SS Troy Tulowitzki
3.) CF Adam Jones
4.) 1B Joey Votto
5.) 3B David Wright
6.) DH Kendrys Morales
7.) RF Jason Heyward
8.) C Kelly Shoppach
9.) 2B Kyle Seager
Felix Hernandez, Hisashi Iwakuma, Lance Lynn, Tim Lincecum, Joe Saunders.
There you have it. The Mariners current #3 hitter would be capping off the lineup. Hopefully the Mariners have better luck with the 12th overall pick tonight.
