The debut for Mariners starter Brandon Mauer wasn't spectacular on Thursday, as he went six innings, gave up eight hits and six runs. But, let's keep in prespective that this was his first start after making the jump from double-A to the majors.
On Friday, the man who caught Mauer's debut, Kelly Shoppach, joined Ian Furness and Jason Puckett to talk about the outing.
One thing that certainly stood out for those of you watching and even for the players themselves was how composed he looked on the mound, it was certainly something that Shoppach recognized.
"His confidence and no fear personality is something you really can't touch."
Mauer struggled early on in the game, but was able to settle down in the middle innings before giving away in the sixth. But, all parties said afterwards that he had tremendous composure on the field.
"He handled it fine. The moment wasn't too big for him. He welcomed the opportunity. He wasn't afraid," said Shoppach.
