MONTLAKE - Junior C.J. Wilcox scored 21 points and hauled in seven rebounds as the Washington Huskies pulled away late for a 88-78 exhibition victory over defending Division II National Champion Western Washington University on Wednesday night.

Wilcox scored 11 points over the final 5:08 of the game to help the Huskies put away the scrappy Vikings. With the game tied at 69-69, Abdul Gaddy hit a pair of free throws and a Wilcox 3-pointer gave a spark as part of an 11-3 run to put Washington out of reach.

Western Washington rallied from 13 points down in the second half to make it interesting for the Huskies. Washington took a 46-36 lead into halftime and extended the lead to 52-39 early in the second half. Western Washington guard John Allen caused fits for the Husky defense in helping rally the Vikings. Five straight points from Rico Wilkins and a basket by Austin Bragg evened the game at 65-65 with 10 minutes to play.

Washington's defense finally began to clamp down and forced turnovers that led to easy baskets and trips to the foul line that allowed the Huskies to put some cushion between themselves and the Vikings. Western Washington was still within five, 80-75 with two minutes to go before back-to-back steal and slams from Jernard Jerreau and Wilcox sealed the game away.

The game against the Vikings was the only exhibition game for Washington before the regular season beings on November 11 at home against Loyola (Md.).

Gaddy and redshirt freshman Andrew Andrews each scored 14 points and senior Scott Suggs scored 13 in his first game action in over a year and a half after redshirting last year due to a foot injury.

Allen and Chris Mitchell each scored 17 points to lead the way for the D-II champs. Paul Jones added 15 and Wilkins finished with nine.
