Former Franklin Star Siva Soaring in Atlanta

Even though UW came nowhere close to the NCAA Championship, Seattle had a personal stake in the game yesterday.

Peyton Siva, the Louisville starting point guard, is from Seattle and played his high school ball at Franklin. He helped the team win the state 4A championship in his freshman season and the 3A championship his senior year.

Dick Fain interviewed Siva in Atlanta after the epic match-up last night. Louisville won the game 82-76.

“When I saw that five seconds left and Russ (Smith) went to the free throw line, and I knew we finally had it sealed, it was amazing,” he said.

Siva joins a list of Washington NCAA champions that includes fellow Franklin-alum Jason Terry, Bremerton High School star Marvin Williams, and Federal Way High School player Michael Dickerson. All three players played or are playing in the NBA.

The NBA is not far off for the Louisville star, a senior. Siva will always be an NCAA champion, knowing it was Seattle where that road began.

“I just want to let Seattle know that I’m doing it for them,” he said. “Sorry I didn’t go to UW, but I had to handle my business out here.”
