With the day after the All Star Game heralding the title of “Slowest Day in Sports” I started thinking… Slow doesn’t necessarily indicate “bad” or “unentertaining.” After all, haven’t some amazing, odd, and funny sports moments involved something slow?
Here are a few great slow sports moments to help get you through the slowest day in sports:
5. Slowest Third Quarter in Super Bowl History?
Turn out the lights, the party is over? No. Just Delayed. This Super Bowl had plenty of exciting moments to come… Once maintenance got the lights back on!
4. Turtle Takes a Delayed Plunge at The Players Championship
You can hear a fan in the background urging this turtle, “Don’t Jump!” However, after a brief contemplation period this turtle decides to do his best, SLOW high-dive. The shell must create some drag!
3. Slow-Starting Trick Play With a Fast-Paced Ending
This is just mean and honestly quite confusing. Could you imagine if this happened in the closing seconds of a Monday Night Football game? Well… Packer fans probably can!
2. Tiger Woods Masters Chip: Golf Ball Reflects on Opportunity Before Finding It’s Home
One of the most memorable shots in Tiger Woods’ career. This golf ball wasn’t quick to go in the 16th hole at Augusta National, but you bet it earned itself a spot on Tiger’s mantle!
1. Kirk Gibson: Slow But Satisfying Home Run Trot
Finally, my personal favorite! Kirk Gibson hits a pinch-hit, walk-off home run on a broken leg. Oh, and did I mention he did this in Game 1 of the World Series? Nothing left to say but unbelievable (I think we can all excuse the slow circling of the bases… He has a broken leg after all)!
