SAFECO FIELD - Seattle Mariners starter Joe Saunders had managed his way through jams in the first and fourt inning without letting the game get completely away.

The Texas Rangers had scored two runs in each inning but a two-run double from Brad Miller and solo home run had kept the Mariners within reach at 4-3. But the Rangers broke the game wide open against Saunders in the seventh inning.

Saunders quickly got the first two outs of the inning before Ian Kinsler doubled to right field. The Mariners chose to intentionally walk Adrian Beltre to set up the force outs and take the bat out of Beltre's hands. Saunders then threw a slider that A.J. Pierzynski crushed into the seats in right field to give the Rangers a 7-3 edge.

Mitch Moreland would add a solo home run in the eighth inning to provide the final margin.

Turning Point: A.J. Pierzynski's 3-run blast into the right field seats broke the game open.

Player Of The Game: Elvis Andrus delivered a 3 for 5 night was an RBI and run scored.

Next Up: The Mariners look to end their four-game skid in game two of the series with the Rangers. RHP Hisashi Iwakuma (12-6, 2.98 ERA) will take on LHP Derek Holland (9-6, 2.95 ERA).
